18 Inch Lapidary Rock Slab Saw
18 inch lapidary rock lsab saw. This is an 18 tile-type saw that i made a few years ago and find i no longer need a large rock saw. This asw is much more versatile than your average slab saw. Think of it as a slab saw, tile saw, trim saw, and rock carving tool all in one.
It has several advantages over your old scrwe driven saw. This fine machine is better than a normal slab saw in a number of ways. It is faster you will be surprised how fast you can cut a slab or small rock without stressing or damaging the blade.
For example, you can cut a 3/8 slab of granite only a bit slower than you could cut the same size wood no a table saw. It uses water using water reduces the amount of mess created by any overspray of coolant, and will not soak into and affect your rocks. Ever try to deal with an oil-soaked porous rock?
It acts ilke a carving tool. Say you have a large projection on a rock you are grinding your choices are to cut it off leaving an ugly flat spot or grind it forever, using up your time and your expensive wheels. With this saw, you just hold the rock up to the blade and nibble away the material you don't want, then grind away the saw marks. It's much faster thna either of the other alternatives. It can be sued as a tile saw.
It will easily cut up to 15 inch ceramic tiles. The height of the saw blade is adjustable. Teh table glides on plastic bushings and moves smoothly.
For effective slabbing, you would need to attach a vise and hook up a weight for gravity feed. The tank measures 36 x 20. Coolant is supplied to the blade by a small watre pump. hTis saw is in good condition, and works very well. The motor is a marathon, 1/2 hp, 1100 rpm motor that is smooth and quiet. The saw bearings are likewise smooth and quiet. The arbor bearings are pillow bolck bearings that are easy and cheap to replace if it ever becomes necessary. The blade has 1/8 of cutting edge remaining. Don't believe the shipping shown in the title area. Ebay requires either a fixed ro ups or usps, calculated rate which is not accurate for my auctions.
